Manipulation
Joint manipulation is a safe and effective treatment for individuals experiencing stiff and painful joints. Mainly, but not limited to the spine. Our approach utilizes low-intensity mobilization with movement, rather than high intensity external force.
Your joints are designed to move in a smooth free fashion, called a movement pattern. When joints move “out of alignment” they naturally want to move back into their normal movement patterns.
While joints rarely move out of alignment, as in a full dislocation, they can have their normal movement patterns disrupted in various ways. Tight muscles increasing their pull on joints is a common problem.
Think of your car when it needs a wheel alignment. It still drives, however the ride is bumpy and you can notice the steering wheel feels wrong in your hands.
When your joint feels stiff, the same forces are at play. Your brain has a map of how your joints are meant to behave, when a muscle is not pulling its weight, or something is interfering with this map, it feels tight and unstable. This is your sense of proprioception, which means your brains map of how your body is meant to move and feel.
Fortunately, joints can be coaxed back into alignment, this is their preferred position after all. This can be done gently, rather than with a violent external force. Less is more when it comes to joint manipulation.
“Click not Crunch”
This lower intensity method reduces discomfort, and enhances overall joint function.
