Patient centred healthcare is more than just a slogan. What your wishes and goals are, is how I deliver service to you. I can give you a focused and defined treatment plan, or a range of options for you to choose from. Despite being located in a gym, all Patients are catered for.

Physiotherapy, like all healthcare, is a trade off between treatment options and efficient allocations of your time and money. Effective treatment requires solutions, both short and long term. At a cost that is reasonable to pay.
Unfortunately the standard treatment model is to maximise Patient visits and keep Patients revisiting for as long as possible. I believe in honest and effective care based on what each individual Patients want. Some Patients want an ongoing relationship with their Physiotherapist, others want to be fixed straight away and never see the inside of the office ever again.

I encourage Patients to state ahead of time the time and money they have available to spend on treatment. This avoids receiving a treatment plan that completely misses what you had in mind. However your treatment desires look, your treatment at RFR will be based around 4 areas. The exact ratio will be unique and tailored to your personal presentation, wishes and circumstances.

Pain management:
There are many treatment options available, but the goal of all pain management is for you to be in less pain at the end of the session than when you walk in. This is the key aspect of short term treatment and generally consists of hands on treatment involving massage, mobilisation or manipulation of some form.
Structural changes:
Treatment over the longer term requires changes to your body tissue to occour. This is in order to prevent pain from returning or heal from an injury. Simply put, body tissues change in response to a stress (exercise) being applied and adapting over time to that stress in a way that benefits you. This is the fundamental biological process by which injuries are made to heal. This is done via intelligently proscribed exercise. I primarily utilise the Starting Strength method of barbell training.
Education:
I believe it’s important for you to know what’s going on in your body, why it’s painful, and what will be done to fix the problem. Most Patients have a poor understanding of their body issues and/or scans because no-one takes the time to explain it. It’s an unfortunate reality that this is widespread in healthcare. My goal, is that you will understand what’s different with your body. What normal function looks like, and how you will get back there. You can’t make fully informed choices about your care if you aren’t fully aware.

Activity modification:
Sometimes painful activities can be avoided, taking up windsurfing at the age of 65 is probably going to leave you sore the next day. This is an easy activity to do less of. Picking up your Children is not. Some activities can be modified, some have to be persevered through. The effect injuries have on your daily life is a simple, but often overlooked aspect of treatment. However finding ways to do painful activities less often, or less painfully is almost always possible.
